Disney World 2013, Day 1

Also known as the day we went to three parks and stayed out until 1 AM:)

What can I say, it was our first day back in "the World" and we just couldn't get enough!

Let me back up a bit though and give you some background on this trip.

First off, we decided to go in the fall this year as opposed to Christmas time.  In hind sight, I'm not really sure why we decided this, but one of the reasons was to experience a Disney water park and the other was to attend Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

As for hotel selection, we were back at the Contemporary this year mostly because it's in walking distance to Magic Kingdom, and we really love that convenience! We left on a Friday afternoon and drove into the wee hours of the morning to Orlando. We stayed off site that first night because it's ridiculous to pay Disney prices for just a couple of hours of sleep:)

All of that to say, we were up bright and early Saturday morning ready to check into our "real" hotel and make our way to Blizzard Beach.

Blizzard Beach Review:

This was an extremely nice water park.  The twins took advantage of every water slide there.  Yes, even the twelve story free fall Summit Plummet!

There was also ample for Frances to do although these preschool sized attractions were separate from the others which kept our little group of five divided most of the time! (As a side note, life jackets are free for the littles.  The addition of the life jacket gave Frances more freedom (and momma more peace of mind) and allowed her to try a few more slides).

After about five hours in the park, however, we were ready to call it a day!  It was warm and there's lots of stair climbing involved to get to all of the beloved water slides.  After a ride around the Cross Country Creek lazy river, we were ready to call it a day!  I don't know how people endure the parks in the heat of the summer 'cause we were pooped!

Not pooped enough to go back to the hotel though:)

Walker couldn't wait to get to EPCOT, so to EPCOT we went.  Mind you, I only packed some "play" clothes to change into at the water park, assuming we would stay there until it closed and head back to the hotel.  So, you can see from this picture on the tram into EPCOT how homely (and tired;) we all looked at this point!

Finally, we made it to Walker's favorite ride....Mission: Space!

I think he was a little excited!!!

Announcing this mission's navigator...

And Kathryn, the pilot...

Thank heavens for a shower and a change of clothes because up next....Chef Mickey's!

Chef Mickey's Review:

This was our only character meal of the trip.  I've learned that character meals are stressful especially if they involve a buffet.  Trying to figure out when to get your food and not miss a character in the process all while wrestling extremely excited kids and forcing them to eat makes for a not so exciting meal.

Case in point, we decided not to wait to see Mickey Mouse during this meal.  We saw the other four characters: Goofy, Donald, Pluto and Minnie.  The kids had already finished their food and were wild and wooly.  We knew we would see Mickey in Magic Kingdom, so we decided to check out early.

Character meals definitely have their advantages, especially if interaction with characters is on your list! I would recommend these dining options that offer character interaction and table service meals: EPCOT's Garden Grill with Farmer Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale or Akershus Royal Banquet Hall Dinner (also in EPCOT in Norway) for fun with a slew of princesses!

After dinner, we decided to make our way to Magic Kingdom.  Why not, right!  It was only 9:00 p.m. and the park was open until 1:00 a.m.The lines were short, and we just couldn't pass it up!

We were so glad we did because Walker was able to make his debut as The Beast at Enchanted Tales with Belle.

The kiss from Belle was worth the late night!

Oh, and let's not forget Ariel in her tail:) We've only seen her with her land legs! So this too was a treat!

And lastly, Frances' first ride on Splash Mountain!  She just did make the 40 inches height requirement:)

Next up, day two at Hollywood Studios and a Birthday Boy!

Mouse Prep, Part 2

Our trip has come and gone, and, boy, do we have lots to share! But I had a few more pre trip items before the posts! So here goes...

Magic bands, luggage tags, and more!

Matt was responsible for these important items, and I did most of the clothes packing, but I loved how the girls got in on the action too!

Frances had her suitcase packed about a week in advance.  Of course, if you can tell from this picture, it was mostly stuffed animals, a pair of pajamas, a t-shirt and some other toy items.  Good thing I packed a few more things for her:)

Sweet Kathryn is my list maker!  She even has her list categorized! Here are the "accessories" she didn't want to forget (the letters above each word represent the family member;)

1) Wig
2) Sunglasses
3) Sunscreen
4) Iphone

Let's just say it's a good thing she didn't forget her Merida wig.  We had WAY. TOO. MUCH. FUN. with it!!!

And lastly in the pre-trip/packing department, I put together these goody bags for the road trip down to Orlando. They were nothing fancy, and I wasn't about to do one for each hour of the 8 hour trip.  I simply chose a few cities along the way and gave them out as we passed through each one!

These were filled with random dollar store/dollar aisle items: coloring packs, snacks, glow rings and necklaces, etc.

As inspiration, I loved this post about prepping for your Disney trip at the Dollar Tree!

Next Up!  BUSBEE DISNEY TRIP 2013!!!

Mouse Prep

We have a "little" trip coming up in a few weeks to Disney World!  To say we are excited would be an under statement!

I thought it would be fun to do some "pre" trip posts to show how we prepare for our trip!  It sounds silly to say, but honestly I've been planning this trip since returning from the previous one last December.  It's the year round prep that keeps the excitement going, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I thought I would start with our wardrobe choices! Probably my most fun part of the planning!

Thankfully, Frances has a good number of Disney, especially princess, inspired clothes. These are items she wears all the time, not just in The World.  I could at any time grab a few things from her closet and call her packing done! The twins at seven prove a bit harder to plan for.

Kathryn thankfully can still wear her Rapunzel dress from years past...

but I knew I would have to come up with a few more age appropriate options. That's when I found this fun dress at Walmart for less that $7!!! Here are the girls sporting their matching dresses!

What's Disney about this dress you may ask!  Well, nothing until you add some vinyl iron ons from Miss Morgan's Designs. Once I picked out the fun princess and ghost designs for the girls, I decided to purchase a few for Walker as well!  Added to inexpensive t-shirts also purchased at Walmart, each of these completed pieces were no more than $15 each!

Here's Miss Frances sporting the finished product and a sad face. Welcome to life with a three year old:)

You will also see her wearing our favorite Disney Princess clips purchased here...

They are perfect for transforming any outfit into Disney park attire!

Once last purchase was this Merida t-shirt for Kathryn...

Although we've now completed our own Disney wardrobe, the girls and I love to search Etsy for other fun Disney inspired goodies! For example, we love these little hair clips!

And how adorable are these headbands?!? We like the Merida themed one, but all of them are super cute!

And if your headed to Disney this winter (and don't mind dropping a small fortune;), this little jacket is my favorite!!!

You'll also find Chevron Minnies...

Tinkerbell Cover ups...

And camo mickeys for the boys...

Can you tell Etsy is addicting!!!!

Now that you've know where to find some great clothing options, visit this great post to see how to efficiently pack for your trip! Happy Packing!!!

Amelia Island

Last weekend, Matt had a conference in Amelia Island, FL. He was brave enough to bring myself and the kiddos along for the ride!

For weeks, the littles were so excited to go to the beach! While Matt was in his morning meetings, though, we put the pool to good use!

Nothing like a little pool fun to wear you out!

There was even a playground right by the children's pool!  Lots of fun for the kids, but lots of sand in the pool:)

Once Matt wrapped up with meetings, we dined poolside and headed for the beach!  Atlantic Coast beaches are so different from our Gulf beaches.  The kids loved the uniqueness!

Not sure what hungry sea creature was devouring all of the horseshoe crabs, but there were literally dozens of these dotting the coast!

Each day, we also had the privilege of visiting with Amelia, the resident parrot...

And watching the staff feed the fish (there was an aggressive and non aggressive tank).  All of this "education" made me not feel so bad about that day of school we missed;)

Walker had love at first sight when this little gopher tortoise made his debut!

Matt worked hard to scan all of the shells for sharks teeth.  Thankfully, he came up with three!  The hotel has a service that will turn them into necklaces (for free:)!!

The kiddos sporting their new jewelry!
