Let the Count Down Begin

We've got a lot of count downs going on around here. Count down until baby, count down until we move, count down until Daddy finishes his fellowship. Perhaps the most important count down of all is the count down until Kathryn and Walker's birthday!

We've actually been counting down since about December 26th. Even after a very generous Christmas, it only took about a day for my two to start finding more things that they want. My reply was always, "for your birthday." Thus began the count down to their big day!

It's actually been a great way to teach them about days, weeks, months. They've been a bit confused especially when we went from 2 months back in April (I think they thought their birthday would always be two months away;), to 3 weeks as of this past Monday. Now, I told them it's about 17 days. You could tell the worry on their faces when the numbers started going up instead of down as we switched from months, to weeks to days! I think that's why they liked 2 months so much!

I decided to help them out a little bit with something more tangible, so we pulled out the art supplies and made one of these...

I simply cut pieces of construction paper into three strips each and let them color and put stickers on the individual strips of paper. I then formed the first strip into a circle and stapled the ends together, looped the second strip through that one and did the same until the chain was formed. Now each day we can remove one of the links as we count down to the big number 4!!!
