Mama Fish
Kathryn and Walker love to look through the book, The Rainbow Fish, a fish with rainbow scales that glitter and shine. The book has a sweet message about not being too proud and sharing with others, but it's a bit wordy for my 21 month olds. So, instead of setting it aside for later, we look at the shimmery pages and I make up a story. However, the pages mostly consist of the rainbow fish, other fish, and an octopus (and he's only on one page). So, I had to get creative. There is a bigger fish, the "mama fish," who leads the little fish through the ocean. They see an octopus, and then they all have shimmery, rainbow scales. Amazing, I know. I should write childrens' books! I didn't really think anything about it, until one day when we were reading books, Kathryn picked up that book, pointed to the fish on the front, and said "Mama fish." Who knew? They do listen. Scary! But, oh so sweet. So, now The Rainbow Fish is affectionately known around here as Mama Fish!
